Handan is entitled as National Historical Cultural City, China’s Excellent Tourist City, National Landscape City,The Example City and China’s Idioms Centre, and also recongnized as “Comparatively Large city”with local legislative right and the extrodinarily big city with a population of over one million.
Handan is located in the Southern part of Hebei province, between eastern lontitude 114°03'—40' and Northern latitude 36°20'—44'. It connects to Taihang Mountain Chain in the west , extends to Huabei Plain, and borders with Shanxi, Shandong and Henan provinces. It covers an area of 12 thousand square meters with 4 districts, one city and 14 counties, and the city centre ocupies 419 square meters with the total population of 8.841 million.
Handan had a long history and brilliant culture, which is the important orientation of Chinese traditional culture. Tracing back to 8000 years ago, there had human beings, and it brought up Cishan culture in the New Stone period. During the War period, Handan developed 158 years long as the capital of Zhao, which was the center of political, economics and culture in the north China. After the unity by Qin, Handan was one of the 36 countries. Han period and Chang’an, Luoyang, Linzi and Chengdu enjoyed Five Capital. At the end of Donghan period, Caowei group located its capital in the south of Handan. During the Song period, the name of the east of Handan became the assistant capital of Bianliang. During the anti-Japan and the liberation period, it was the location of headquarter of the national army and the government. The long history nourished Cishan culture, Zhao culture, Nvwa culture, Jianan culture, Meng culture, Cizhouyao culture, etc. the inner meaning was quite deep and splendid.
The transportation in Handan is fluent, locating in the heart of the surrounding four provinces and the central parts of China. Among the four provinces, Handan is the only one biggest city. The distance is 200 kilometers away from the four cities, Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, Jinan and Zhengzhou, and the distance away from Beijing, Tianjin and some other big cities is within 500 kilometers. The location of Handan has significant advantages, surrounded by the three economical circles, and extending to the triangle economical circles, Zhu River economical quarters, and Bo Sea quarters. Handan is the key in the transportation of north China, crossing Jingguang railway, Jingshen subway and 107 national roads. The transportation net has formed. Handan international airport is invested by the central government. Now it has been tested. In the cross part with the provinces, only Handan has cross railway, national road, subway and airport.
Handan has a sustainable economical base. The complex conditions of agricultural production is well developed, which is the main production area of wheat, cotton, corn and the other two grain. The production of wheat and cotton amounts to 2000,000 tons and 80000 tons. It is also called grain storage in the north of china, becoming Jize pepper, Linzhang rabbit, Guantao egg and Weixian pear and other ten special industrial towns. The kinds are mostly complete, and it is also the main production base of the iron, electricity, coal, building material textile and daily used china. The commercial and trade in Handan is well developed, forming a sum of wholesale markets connecting the whole country, including the textile, car trading, building material and stell&iron.
